HANDOUTS FOCUSED ON COMPETENCY 2 OF THE QEP

A selection from my visual culture unit for high school. All unique handouts developed by myself.

VISUAL CULTURE RESPONSE

Students answered the questions: is it art?; what are the elements and principles?; and what is the concept? about different examples of conceptual art mixed with examples of pop culture. This was used as an introduction to visual culture.

SOCIAL MEDIA ART RESPONSE

Students got into groups and discussed different conceptual artists who critique social media in a variety of interesting and controversial ways. We then had a class discussion about each of the different artists. This lesson always results in a lively discussion!

MY VISUAL CULTURE

Students were asked to complete one of the four pages of this doc. They got to talk about visual media (movies etc.), music, brands, or celebrity. This gave them the opportunity to talk about something in visual culture they were really passionate about. They were then instructed to make an artistic TikTok about that subject.

FINAL CRITIQUE

Students watched a compilation video of student TikToks from the whole unit and answered these questions in groups. This way they got to think about why we might have made art with TikTok.
